In the Mid-West, in January, we can feel a little sluggish or down. (The “winter-blues". )
What can we do for ourselves to regain an "up-beat" mind frame and to adapt to the cold?
One great answer in Yoga = back bends.
Here are the three main benefits of practicing back-bends:
1. they are exhilarating, mentally they help us to be more creative and physically they add fire to our system, building more heat, energy and resilience.
2. They open the chest and the shoulders, which benefits our breathing and gives us a chance to bring more oxygen to all the tissue in our body.
3. They facilitate squeezing the disks between the vertebrae, helping them to let go
of old blood and toxins.
Often back bends are seen as demanding or we feel strained in our lower back or neck.
A gentle and supportive approach will be key.
In our practice we will experiment with “less is more” in our Yoga- back -bends.
For this class you will need a STRAP or a BELT ( a bigger towel will work as well.)
Much love,
